My name is Julie Ziesmann. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist in London.

As a psychologist, I work with people therapeutically to help them understand more about themselves. When we feel low or anxious, we often don’t know what it is we are struggling with or the thing we are struggling with feels disproportionate to how we are feeling. By learning more about ourselves and our unconscious processes, we can develop and improve our self-awareness and become more active participants in our lives. This helps us feel less like we are being led by our emotions.

How does therapy work?

In the context of mental health, the term ‘therapy’ is slang for ‘psychotherapy’ and commonly encompasses everything that falls under the umbrella of talking therapies. So what are talking therapies? The term talking therapies refers to the idea that talking will help us disentangle and understand that which ails us. Within talking therapies, there are all sorts of different approaches as to how this might look.

Counselling Psychology

Counselling Psychology is a discipline within the field of applied psychology. Counselling Psychologists are trained at doctoral level to use different therapeutic modalities to help clients.
